Capstone Project!

That's right folks, as the title of the post indicates, the Capstone Project for graduation is right around the corner. I will be a full fledged #GameDesigner in just a few short months! Eight to be exact. Let me break it down for you. This month in Project and Portfolio V, my fellow game design students and myself are all pitching our Capstone game idea for our final project. That's over a hundred submissions folks! You all may be asking yourself what is the Capstone Project? That is a valid question, the Capstone Project is the project we have to build in a team of four or five in four months using Unity Game Engine in order to graduate. The requirements for the project are to come up with a game concept, iron out details and pitch a the concept in a four minute or less video to our instructor and class mates three times. First pitch is a rough pitch quickly thrown together to get an idea out there, the teacher as well as our classmates watch the video, comment questions, comments, concerns and the like and we revise, edit, tie up loose ends and pitch it again a little more polished. The whole cycle repeats, and finally you get to where I am now the final pitch! I have my script ready, I have my game concept pretty well flushed out, and I am going to pitch my final video tonight. I will post another post THREE to be exact of each video with all the comments my peers have commented so that you can see the evolution.

I would like to say that I would like to give a huge shout out to 'Tell Tales' from Blue Orange Games, a very intriguing game that I bought from my family reunion two years back that has been nothing but an epic cornerstone to my projects. When I get stuck in a game concept whether its story, characters, mechanics, or what ever I turn to this brilliant game in a can. The game is simple, its a tin can that holds 60x 3inch circular card stock cards with cartoon-y images on both sides, that when a child plays the game they are to draw up to four cards then attempt to make a story from it and tell a tall tale! When I am stuck on a concept or need a fresh idea and I am normally drawing a blank I go to http://www.random.org then generate a number 5x (One for each of my family members (Me, Jamie, Bella, Arianna, and Colby) What ever the number is I draw draw that number card from the top then flip a coin Heads I keep the image on top, tails I keep the image on the back. Then I attempt to make a concept for that that. I repeat the process until I have all the ideas I need only I lower the number of the cards in the deck.

 

I would also like to give a huge shout out to my Mom who helped me unlock my brain with the cards chosen this time. I have a "night sky", "rain", "letter from home", "guy behind bars", "guy dancing as if hes free."

Here is the summery:

"In this thrilling three dimensional first person escape crawler the player is granted an accidental reprieve from their scheduled medication. The player is given an opportunity for freedom and they take it. From this point the player spends their time carefully picking their way through the labyrinth of opposing forces; utilizing their environment and items found scattered throughout the facility to establish allies that will look the other way, cause disturbances or aide in their escape through the map. The only thing that matters is that gloriously lit up exit sign."
